I am taking part in the JLF event to help raise awareness for bowel cancer. It's never really far from my mind. My beautiful friend Sarah lost her battle with this horrible disease last year at just 39 years old. She was such a selfless and amazing friend. We all though she used to collect bottles and cans to fund her exercise tights addiction, but it was always to raise money for various charities; there wasn't much that Sarah did for herself, including wanting to take part in the JLF trek a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, she was unable to complete the trek and so this year I would like to pick up the baton for her. Bowel cancer has also affected my family. We have a dominant APC gene mutation, which results in unsuppressed tumor growth and has a 90% chance of developing into cancer by 40 years of age if left untreated. This is a prolific disease, that affects more people in their 20's and 30's than you would think. I want to do my part to spread the message that bowel cancer isn't just an over 50's disease.
