I'm 43 years old, a husband and dad with two beautiful children. An 11 year old boy and a 2 year old girl. I'm so lucky to have such a beautiful family and as my kids grow up and I get older I realise more and more just how precious life is and how quickly it passes by. In June last year my Mum died from bowel cancer. A ten year battle that began when she was in her 50's. From the initial diagnosis followed operations, colostomy bags, reversals, ileostomy bags, secondary cancer and a whole heap of tough stuff for both mum and dad. My son was only 8 months old when mum was diagnosed so I am very grateful both my kids got to know their Oma and I'm especially grateful for the joy they gave her. That being said with greater awareness it potentially could have been prevented. This foundation is doing great work to not only raise awareness of ways to detect bowel cancer early but it is taking practical action through the test kits and preventing bowel cancer deaths. My dad's brother also died of bowel cancer and with this disease being evident on both sides of the family, both my brother and I are classed as high risk candidates. I plan on sticking around for my family and am keen to help raise awareness of early detection and prevention of this disease.
