I’m taking part in this event to raise awareness about preventing bowel cancer. Bowel cancer is the second most common cause of cancer-related death in Australia, but detected early 99% of bowel cancer cases can be successfully treated. Current test uptake rates are unacceptably low, and this is what the Jodi Lee Foundation is addressing in undertaking bowel cancer workplace programs, awareness education and distributing detection tools.
My father and his colleagues at their Rotary club in the NSW Mid North Coast town of Taree have been championing BC screening for decades. Their efforts in promoting and assisting BC screening have unquestionably saved many in that community. It is this type of grass-roots campaigning and educating that makes the difference, and that the Jodi Lee Foundation is undertaking.
After many years of promoting BC screening to others my father was diagnosed with the disease himself. He survived because he was taking the test.
I am also attempting the JLF Ride 2021 to supervise that my buddy Youngy rides the full 547km including all of the 6765 meters vertical and without climbing into the support van. I haven't asked him but I suspect he is doing the same in relation to me !
The team at the Jodi Lee Foundation and I would be very grateful for any support you are able to offer.
