I'm taking part in this event to raise awareness about preventing bowel cancer. I hope to highlight to my friends and their families the importance of early detection with Bowel Cancer.
On your fiftieth birthday – and every two years after that – the government sends you a screening test in the mail, but currently around 40 per cent of people do their tests.
Whilst, Bowel cancer is known as an 'old persons illness', it isn't. Many Australian's like my Mum are diagnosed before the age of 50 and when detected early, 99% of bowel cancers can be successfully treated or even prevented.
As Bowel cancer is the second most common cause of cancer-related death in Australia, it's a super important cause that's not only relevant and important to my family but to all Australians.
I will be partaking in the fundraiser as an individual, but will be walking with my family and friends for support.
