Our family has a pretty dire history of bowel cancer, so Bec's GP suggested she have a colonoscopy at the age of 43, despite being fit and healthy and with no symptoms.
The colonoscopy uncovered three types of growths, one with the potential to turn nasty quickly.
This prompted Bec’s three siblings to have colonoscopies, for which they received the all clear.
Bec, however, is now a 'frequent flyer' as one nurse put it, since her follow-up colonoscopy a year later also revealed another potential nasty.

As well as providing the motivation to get fit, we thought The SA Hiking Challenge was a great way to show our support for The Jodi Lee Foundation and its efforts to raise money for bowel cancer awareness.
Hopefully by the time our children turn 40 even more advanced screenings will be possible!
