I have been involved with the JLF since 2011 when I participated in the NYC marathon. I had a wonderful year learning more about bowel cancer and education, starting to run and training for the marathon which was an amazing experience.
It was such an amazing experience that I then set myself a project to run a marathon on each of the 7 continents. I was due to complete my challenge in March 2014, but the South American marathon I had trained for was cancelled only 5 days before the event, and I haven't managed to get back there since. My project is still stalled on 6/7. 2019 will be my year!
As a Pelvic Health Physiotherapist, I spend much of my work day talking to people about bowel health as well as exercise and diet, and have recommended many people be screened. I am also working increasingly with people who have had bowel surgeries, often as a result of cancer.
The work the Jodi Lee Foundation does is critical to get government, industry and the public more proactive in preventing, detecting and treating bowel cancer as early as possible.
I am doing the trek this year with my sister who lost her mother in law to bowel cancer, so know all too well the importance of screening and early detection.
