The Heysen Trail is one of the most beautiful walking trails in Australia, passing through diverse and breathtaking landscapes. We are exploring it once again, this time through South Australia’s picturesque and sometimes rugged Southern Flinders Ranges.

Starting on the fringe of the Wirrabara Forest we will hike approximately 80km of the Heysen Trail over 20 and 21 May, finishing at Horrocks Pass, west of Wilmington. We will be based in Port Augusta and buses will take you to and from the trail, starting bright and early both mornings. There will be an amazing event at the finish line to celebrate your achievement.

This event has special meaning ... we're hiking in memory of Tracey Lee Diamond, who sadly lost her battle with bowel cancer in February 2014 aged just 41. Her family is committed to helping us raise awareness about preventing bowel cancer, and is once again the major sponsor of the event.

The JLF Trek is a challenging event. A reasonable level of hiking experience and fitness is needed to take part. If you are concerned about the distance, you can hike just one of the days, and for those who are unable to complete it, don’t worry, you can be collected from one of the checkpoints, stationed approximately every 10kms, depending on vehicle access.

The trail on the first day is moderate, requiring an average level of fitness, while day two includes some challenging climbs and difficult sections along the Mount Remarkable Ranges that require experience and a high level of fitness.

Fundraising is an important element of the event with money raised going towards our bowel cancer prevention initiatives. More than $408,000 was raised through The JLF Trek last year, and we’re hoping to raise over $300,000 again in 2016, to help us prevent bowel cancer.

We are grateful for every dollar that’s raised and are here to help you wherever we can. You can download our Fundraising Guidelines here and contact our office anytime if you need more information.
