Five years ago Roger introduced Alicia to the world of cycling in the beautiful surrounds of Provence in Southern France. Since then their love for cycling has flourished and they ride regularly together with a large group of friends in Sydney's north. Alicia and Roger have been back overseas completing multi-day and multi-week self-guided tours and have also participated in many events for various charities.Bowel cancer has been unfortunately prevalent on both sides of the family, with three grandparents battling the disease in the later stages of their lives. Alicia never got to meet her grandfather as it was too late by the time he was diagnosed and he passed away before she was born. She sadly recalls her Nana's fight against bowel cancer and the impact that it had on her life both physically and mentally before her health deteriorated even further and she passed away with lung cancer.Roger's grandmother passed away too early in his life to remember her, dying from bowel cancer. Unfortunately the genetic predisposition has appeared in the next generation of his family, with his uncle having been diagnosed, had surgery, recessed, and then recently relapsed followed by further surgery.Suffice to say that when friends Cameron and Donna Olson invited Roger and Alicia to participate in the Little Black Dress Classic, bringing together their passion for cycling and an opportunity to promote awareness and early detection of bowel cancer they could not turn them down!Alicia and Roger are really looking forward to the event, which certainly poses a challenge to their cycling abilities. They will be training regularly and inviting fellow riders to participate with them while promoting The Jodi Lee Foundation's cause.
