Running a marathon has always been a challenge I wanted to tackle, but if you had asked me 12 months ago if I was to run one in 2011 I would have laughed and said it was definitely not achievable. 

At age 24, I found myself working long hours and making little time for exercise. With a family history of bowel cancer, and a brother aged 40 and a sister aged 38, the Jodi Lee Foundation really struck a chord with me. So when the opportunity arose to run in the New York Marathon for the Jodi Lee Foundation, I quickly accepted, and commenced the gruelling (but rewarding!!) training program, defeating pigs flu and knee injuries along the way. Although I have no expectations in the marathon (other than wanting to finish it alive!) I cannot wait for the sense of achievement when I cross the finish line on what will be a very long day in November!

Through movie screenings, a charity ball and numerous dinner parties, I hope that my fundraising efforts have helped to raise awareness of early detection of this disease, particularly amongst those aged 25-40.
